Is it a Good idea to build new Konark Sun temple Replica or can we re-build history ?
Reported by Abhijit Achary :- One of the most enthralling World Heritage Sites of UNESCO, The Sun Temple of KONARK may be re-built on a miniaturized scale by Padma Shree recipient Sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra.
The Sun Temple of KONARK was originally built in the year of 1238 by Maharaja Languda Narasingha Deva of Ganga Dynasty and in order to build this 13th century architectural monument took 1200 workers a time span of 12 years .As the existing Sun Temple is in dilapidated state and may get labefied soon, Sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra under the aegis of State Government has been cogitating to build a simulacrum the Sun Temple at the expense of 500 workers and the project may take 8 years for the fructification of the efforts of the sculptors & laborers. Closed room discussions have been going on between Culture Minister, Maheswar Mohanty & CM, Naveen Pattnaik to consider the proposal of the aforementioned sculptors.
Re-building the 13th century Megalith will have the following repercussions :-
- 1-Curiosity generation among domestic and overseas tourists to visit the new yet miniaturized version which in turn will result in TOURISM REVENUE ESCALATION
- 2-It will showcase the manual dexterity of the incumbent Odia sculptors and corroborate that Padma Vibhushan recipient Raghunath Mohapatra is the 21st century Bishu Moharana
- 3-It will enable us to leave a legacy for our future generations and if a new sun temple didn’t get built , our posterity would not even able to know how THE 13TH CENTURY ARCHITECTURAL MEGALITH used to look like considering it’s current stage of labefaction and deterioration
