~The Profile of a good Young Writer Rajendra Kumar Roul~
Rajendra Kumar Roul , Born on May 3rd, 1976, Rajendra Roul is a well-known name in contemporary Odia literature. He is undoubtedly a very active short-story (fiction) writer among his contemporaries below 40s. He belongs to a remote village, named Pianagadia of district Balasore, Odisha, India – currently residing at Bhubaneswar with his wife Lopamudra and a 5 years old girl child Pipi. His father Abhimanyu Roul is a voracious reader and an All India Radio (AIR) approved folk singer (Pala Gayak) by profession. His father was his primary source of inspiration in making Mr. Roul a writer. That is why writing became his passion as well as profession. He is currently working as a feature writer in DHARITRI, a vernacular Odia daily.
From a very tender age, literature fascinated Mr. Roul. Even when he was in school, he got published his poems and short-stories in school magazine then, for which he got awarded many times. His writings got published regularly throughout the college career. Positive comments and reviews by eminent linguists and professors on his literary creations inspired him to tread long path in the world of writing. He became the Literary Champion during the Intermediate (1993-94) and got awarded by the then Chief Minister Late Biju Patnaik. And since then he has never looked back.
Later, during his professional career as a media person he devoted ample time toward short-story and novel writing. Short-stories written by him got frequently published in top-grade ODIA magazines like JHANKAR, KATHA, SACHITRA VIJAYA, SAHITYA PRUTHIVI, KADAMBINE etc. All his stories received nice appreciation and rave reviews by readers and literary analysts alike.
Short-story HATYAKAREE (The Assassin) which got published in Sachitra Vijaya in 2006 brought him into limelight as Rajendra acknowledges non-reluctantly. Comments and suggestions of the then editor of Sachitra Vijaya and renowned poet Mr. Sunil Prusty, added to his enthusiasm. He has already written more than fifty short-stories in different literary journals.
He has two books to his credit. In 2010 his first collection of short-stories was published titled HATYAKAREE. This book contains ten fictions of different genre. He has also written a biography of Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer; namely SACHIN, which was published in the year 2011. He has completed a novel, named VIRUS which is going to hit the market by the end of this year.
