• Rafael Nadal of Spain defeated Canada’s Milos Raonic 6-2 6-2 in the final of the men’s Rogers Cup on 11 August 2013 in Montreal, Canada.
• The first season of the Indian Badminton League (IBL) started on 14 August 2013 at New Delhi. IBL is proposed by Badminton Association of India.
• A major fire broke out on board INS Sindhurakshak at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 14 August 2013
• India won six medals at the 7th Asian Junior Wushu Championships which concluded in Manila, Philippines which concluded on 13 August 2013.
• A team of researchers from the University of Gerona in Spain found that huge numbers of insects are shipped across the world unwittingly.
• SC directed the Union Government and Uttarakhand Government to not grant clearances to the hydro-electric projects in Uttarakhand.
• Vinay Mittal, a former Indian Railway Traffic Service officer was appointed as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 8 August 2013.

• The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reports that the Indian Government had failed to follow defense procurement policy rules in awarding a 560 million euros luxury helicopter deal to AgustaWestland.

• Indian badminton League (IBL) starts from today. 6 Teams will participate in the event.

• Indian submarine INS Sindhurakshak sank with 18 crewmen after explosion early in the morning at the high-security naval dockyard in Mumbai. The cause of the explosion is still not known.

• A 6.1 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of China in which 87 people were injured and over 45,000 homes damaged.
• Anna Hazare to ring bell at NASDAQ and to lead Independence Day parade in New York.
