I Put My resignation letter with No plan to Start Something New – Swagat Baral Co-Founder of Dew Drop Aquatic Systems #Odisha #Bhubnaeswar
“So, what’s next? Which kind of business you are planning to start?” his fiancée asked him. He mulled it over in silence, sipping on his coffee while she waited for his answer. Taking a long breath, he answered, “Something related to water industry, I guess! As this is the only thing, I can start with at this point of time”. It was February of 2014. Swagat Baral, Co-founder of “Dew Drop Aquatic Systems” and Founder of “Tefnut Innovation Technologies Pvt. Ltd” recounts the story of how he had put his resignation letter with noplan to start something of his own but was completely clueless about what to do. His marriage was ahead but unlike most of his friends, he was struggling with his career.
More About of Swagat baral –
Born on 19th August, 1988 in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha, Swagat did his entire schooling and college in Bhubaneswar only. After completion of his B. Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication in the year 2010 from Biju Pattnaik University of Technology.
Swagat baral joined a Spanish MNC named “Fluidra Group of Companies” at Bangalore as a Technical Application Engineer. Later on, he got transferred to Bhubaneswar and then to Raipur where his primary responsibility was to look after the projects as well as the Business Development. This was the time, when he met Mr. Piyush Mishra, a passionate and aggressive second generation entrepreneur from Raipur, who used to be the owner of an EPC Company of “Fluidra”.
Swagat Baral started doing freelancing in his company during the weekends for some extra income. There he learned what actually business was and how to build a successful company starting it right from the scratch. But those days, Global Economic Slowdown had affected the Real Estate Industry really badly and he had no plans to start any similar kind of business. Anyways, he never liked his “9 to 5” corporate job and always wanted to do something of his own and was exploring various industries and the scopes. Finally, he resigned in February of 2014, without even consulting with his family and friends. Only after his resignation got approved, he realized that he had no plans about what to do.
Those days, Sashank and Satyajit (His partners in his current venture) were always tempting him to start a venture related to water industry. Finally, three of them decided to start a Landscape irrigation company initially named as “Dew Drop Irrigation Systems” and Swagat moved to Bhubaneswar with only Rs. 22,000 in his account. Unlike most of the entrepreneurs/wannabe entrepreneurs of today’s generation, he was not even financially ready to start a venture. “Savings used to be a myth for me those days and I used to spend my whole salary on travelling and partying” he laughs.
However, the market was recovering gradually and they could see potential in “Wet Tranquility” segment as well and decided to add it into the portfolio of their venture. This is how “Dew Drop Aquatic Systems” got shaped up. It was the month of March of 2014; the three of them collected Rs. 3000 each and started the venture “Dew Drop Aquatic Systems”, a company offering solutions for Swimming Pools, Landscape Irrigation, Rain water harvesting, Steam, Sauna, Spa and Fountains; with Rs. 9000 in a small room at Jagatpur, Cuttack. Swagat considers himself very lucky to get his first project, a swimming pool project in Bhubaneswar within only 4 days of inception.
Then came a period of 5-6 months; which was the most frustrating phase for him. During those bootstrapping days, he was himself doing all the ground work; looking after the marketing to project execution, from procurement to operations along with his two partners. They were able to get 3 or 4 more projects in the meanwhile but the cash flow was not so good those days.
He had joined TiE, Bhubaneswar Chapter and was attending the conferences organized by TiE regularly. In such a conference, he got to meet Mr. Tapan Kumar Mohanty, MD of Z-estates Pvt. Ltd. They were doing a huge luxurious project named “z1” at Bhubaneswar those days and had two huge swimming pools and a 6-seater Jacuzzi in the project. He approached Mr. Mohanty and introduced himself and his company. After chasing for more that 3 months and giving several technical presentations to Z-Estates’ technical team; he finally got the major breakthrough. They bagged the project while the industry leaders were in competition. He has never looked back since then.
Dew Drop Aquatic Systems has now successfully completed more than 15 projects and has another 8 projects in hand. They are now operating in Odisha and Chhattisgarh and have plans to expand in Jharkhand and Assam this year. In early 2016, Swagat started his second venture named “Tefnut Innovation Technologies Pvt. Ltd.” and is working on ‘Pool automation system through AI based mobile app”. He has plans to enter into manufacturing of various things which includes but are not limited to Pressure Filters, Pumps, Underwater Lights and Pool Automation Systems.
