           Raja Rajeswari Besha: Considered most attractive among all beshas, the Raja Rajeswari besha takes place on Vijaya Dasami (Dasahara), Kartika Purnima, Dola Purnima and Pousa Purnima (Pushyabhiseka) in each year .This is called as Rajarajeswari Besha (Suna Besha, also known as Bada Tadau Besha or Raja Besha) .  We celebrate  Maha Aarati programme on this pousa Purnima too at puri Beach .

The famous Suna (gold) Besha takes place on Asadha Sukla Ekadasi Tithi (the 11th day of the bright fortnight in Asadha) when the deities are in Their respective chariots in front of the Lions Gate of Shree Jagannatha Temple on in the left hand. Lord Shree Balabhadra wields a golden plough in His left hand, a gold mace in His right hand.

This Besha is also done on the Tithis like Vijaya Dasami (Dasahara), Kartika Purnima, Dola Purnima and Pousa Purnima (Pushyabhiseka). The Palia Puspalak, Bhitarchha Mohapatra, Talichha Mohapatra, Daitapatis, Khuntia and Mekap Sevaks are involved to decorate this gorgeously Besha on the chariots. Lakhs of devotees irrespective of caste, creed and religion have a chance for darshan of the above Besha on the chariots during evening hours.

Ritual of Raja Rajeswari Besha / Suna Besha of Lord Jagannath :

This is called as Rajarajeswari Besha (Suna Besha, also known as Bada Tadau Besha or Raja Besha) . This Vesha is observed on Vijaya Dasami (Dasahara), Kartika Purnima, Dola Purnima and Pousa Purnima (Pushyabhiseka) in each year. This bhesha is as like as Suna vesha on the Chariot in front of Lions gate of Sri Mandir. This bhesha is mostly liked by the local kings of Orissa and they used to donate different golden ornaments bejwelled with valuable stones. The deities are decorated with 23rd type of golden ornaments.

It is identical to the deities’ sunabesha during the annual ‘Ratha Jatra’. The deities, among others, will be adorned with giant feets, hands, huge crown, chest guards, garlands, conch, lotus, besides weapons like Chakra, all made in pure gold, weighing over 200 kg.

There are over 367 items made of four quintals of gold and silver ornaments weighing 14 quintals in the lone ‘Ratna Bhandara’ or temple treasury of Puri Jagannath temple accessed till date. It is believed that the temple have atleast seven ‘Ratna Bhandaras’ that remains un-accessed.
