As its month of Kartika, all are looking for veg dishes. Potola rasa is one of most veg dish of Odisha.


1.Parwal/Potola- 500 gm
2.Potato- 150 gm
3.Shredded coconut -10 tablespoon
4.chopped tomato- 1 cup
5.Red chili powder – 1or2 tablespoon
6.Cumin seeds- 2 ½ teaspoon
7.Cashew nut -10nos
8.Bay leaf – 2
9.Turmeric powder- teaspoon
10.coriander powder- 1 tablespoon
11.garam masala powder- 1/2 tablespoon
12.Oil -10 tablespoon
13.Ginger -1/2 inch
14.Salt – as per taste
1.Wash and peel the potola and Cut each it in two halves (width wise).
2.Peel the potatoes and cut into pieces(cube shape).
3.Make a fine paste of ginger and cumin seeds together and make another paste of coconut and cashew nut.
4.Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the vegetables till golden brown and Keep aside.

5.Heat some oil in the pan and fry cumin seeds and bay leaf.
6.Add the ginger and cumin paste, turmeric powder. Fry it till oil starts coming out.
7.Add chopped tomato,paste of coconut and cashew nut and coriander powder,stir it for 2 to 3 minutes.
8.Add fried Potola and potatoes, stir it for 2 to 3 minutes again.
9.Put 3 cups of water and salt to taste and garam masala.
10.Bring it to boil. Reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes or till the potatoes are cooked and the gravy is thick.
11.Now Potola-Alu rasa is ready. Serve it with any meal.
