In the backdrop of the roaring bay of Bengal,cooling sea breeze and the glazing sands under halogen lights the Kalinga Bali Jatra Mahotsava-2013 fair got off to a colorful start at Biju Maidan in Paradeep port town on 16/11/2013 (Saturday) evening .
Paradip MLA and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Damodar Rout inaugurated the KalingaBaliyatra Mahotsav-2013 here with much fanfare on Saturday evening.
KalingaBaliyatra Committee (KBC) chairman cum Jagatsinghpur District Collector Satya Kumar Mallickpresided,while KBC vice chairman and Paradip ADM Dr RamakrushnaSahoo introduced the guests. The guests were Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Erasama Balikuda MLA Prasant Kumar Muduli, Jagatsinghpur ZillaParishad president DebiduttaMohanty,Paradip Port Trust Chairman Sudhanshu Sekhara Mishra,Secretary MSME Panchanan Das,Senior Manager NSIC,India PC Naik, Chairman Paradip Municipality ManjulataJena,SPJagatsinghpurSatyabrataBhoi,Executive officer, Paradip Municipality SharadaPrasanna Panda and KujangaTehsildar RK Kanhara.The ministers and political leaders were brought to the meeting venue by a huge procession with bursting of fire crackers and drum beating.
Around 250 shops& stalls have been opened.The stall & shops sells large varieties of local hand-loom &handcrafts products like the stitch work from pipli,terracotta products, hand-loom clothes of sambalpur & pasaa paali,etc.Large varities of local delicacies like thunkapoori & chhenaa tarkari, kataki dahibaraa & aloodum,chakuli & maansha kassa,various types of chaats , maattihaandi maansha, podda maansha, typical odia sea food recipes & various odia sweets were also served in the stalls.Small scale industries, NGO’s, Odisha Departments,MSME , OTDC have also put up stalls. Overall the the fair is platform to demonstrate the rich cultural diversity of Odisha & Odiyas. The festival also had cultural programmes everyday till end of the Yatra on November 22.
The Port Day was also observed on the auspicious KartikPurnima by the Paradeep Port Trust (PPT) on Sunday. PPT chairman SS Mishra,as the chiefguest,unfurled the Paradip Port flag and handed over the sacred Kalas to the Sadhavas who set sail on board a traditionally decorated boat.He also inspected the port marine crafts.Port Deputy Conservator Capt GP Biswal welcomed the guests.
Referring to the recent Phailin, Mishra recalled how Paradip people faced it so bravely.The port authorities exhibited their social commitment by taking care of the people staying in the low-laying areas.
