Koraput: Parab , the State-level tribal festival, a festival of indigenous people of Odisha in general and Koraput in particular was scheduled to be launched from Maa Konta Baunsuni temple at Damanjodi on January 7 next year, Sachin Jadhav , district Collector of Koraput said.
The festival which has been organised by District Council of Culture(DCC) , Koraput since 1996 had become one of the leading festivals of the State and was attracting the attention of domestic and foreign tourists and researchers for its unique features, Muralidhar Swain , district culture officer of Koraput said.
The festival with an aim of spotting hidden talents in the field of art, culture and sports at the grass-root level as well as to promote the rich cultural heritage of this region had proved as one of the best platforms for artists and sports persons to take part in various competitions from the block to district-level .
Conduct of competitions in traditional tribal events such as tribal music, dance, art and craft, traditional sports, etc has helped in preserving the heritage of this region. Besides various cultural programmes , seminar on tribal way of life , boat race, mini marathon, cycle race, poetry festival were being organised year after year by inviting eminent artists and troupes from and outside the State in addition to facilitating performance of tribal artists of the region .
While every year the festival was celebrated in November, this year the district had opted to shift the festival dates to January expressing solidarity with the pain of people who had lost life, livelihood and wealth. The last three days of the festival would be held from January 16 at Koraput , Mr.Jadhav said .
