New Railway station will come up at Paralakhemundi & will promote the local Odia #Handicrafts #Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: Railways minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday announced here that a new station will come up at Paralakhemundi in tribal dominated Gajapati district. It will be developed as a full-fledged station, he added.
He declared this while flagging off extension of two trains in two different routes and laying foundation stone of some railway projects through video conferencing at the Bhubaneswar Railway station.
It was a long-standing demand of Paralakhemundi people to develop the station. It is now a passenger halt. It has no proper platform, station building and passenger amenities like other stations, sources said.
Prabhu also announced that the Railways will give a market linkage to tribal artifacts and handlooms through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Tribals will get an online platform for marketing of their products, he said.
“Even women self-help groups (SHGs), who are making traditional Odia cuisines and other food materials, can get opportunity to sale their product in Railways. We will try to help them in marketing their product,” he added.
He along with Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off extension of Khurda Road-Rajsunakhala passenger train up to newly built Bolagarh Road station. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has recently completed trial run on the 12.82 km long stretch between Rajsunakhala and Bolagarh of 289-km long Khurda Road-Bolangir new and important railway line project of Odisha.
They also flagged off Rourkela-Bhubaneswar Rajyarani Express up to Gunupur. This train is connecting Gunupur to the capital city of Bhubaneswar via Paralakhemundi. It will connect important cities of Rourkela and Bhubaneswar directly with Gajapati and Rayagada districts.
Prabhu laid foundation stone for Khurda Road-Puri bypass line, fourth line between Rourkela and Bondamunda, Multi-disciplinary Training Centre at Jagatpur in Cuttack and maintenance facilities for MEMU units at Khurda Road.
He inaugurated lift and escalators at Bhubaneswar railway station, double line between Handapa and Saragipali stations in Angul-Sambalpur doubling project, raising and extension of platform no-1 and new platform no-2 and new approach road at Jharsuguda Road station through videoconferencing.
Among others, union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, tourism and culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MPs and MLAs attended the ceremony. Read more
