Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd (OHPC) has chalked out a series of steps to new power generation in Odisha

As part of its plan, the OHPC has floated a tender to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 600 MW pump storage project at Indravati, energy secretary P K Jena said.Odisha-Hydro-Power-Corporation-Ltd

He said Indravati is one of the three pump storage power projects for which preliminary estimate reports have been prepared. The other two pump storage projects are 500 MW project at Balimela and 320 MW project at Upper Kolab.

Talking to TOI, Jena said DPR for two more mini hydro projects, a 3 MW capacity at Kanpur in Keonjhar district and a 2 MW capacity at Jambira in Mayurbhanj district, are also being prepared. Discussions are on to set up a 15 MW mini power project at Mandira dam in association with Rourkela Steel Plant. He said the government was very strict on preparation of drawings and designs for each power project and had selected Water and Power Consultancy Services (Wapcos) and IIT, Roorkee, for the purpose.

Besides, the process for selecting sites for 15 more mini hydro projects, which would generate about 100 MW power, was on. The government is also planning to set up nine more power projects in association with the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), Jena added.

The projects include Middle Kolab hydro project (285 MW), Baramula hydro power project (259 MW), Balijori hydro project (178 MW), Mahanadi and Bramhani river power project (150 MW), Salki hydro project (125 MW) and Khadago hydro project (100 MW).

The energy secretary said the government has also signed 35 MoUs with private companies to set up more power projects. Of them, three have been implemented so far, he added
