Love without borders:Bolangir girl flies to Pakistan to wed Facebook lover #News
A 26-year-old girl from Bolangir district, who scripted a cross-border love story with a man from Pakistan on social networking site Facebook, has finally flown to the neigbouring nation to tie the knot.
Police in Odisha’s Balangir district have started investigations to trace a girl who is said to have crossed over to Pakistan and married her Facebook friend.
The family of the girl filed a missing person complaint after Pakistani and international media reported about her elopement.
“We have started an investigation and looking at all angles. We are probing whether she has went to Pakistan,” Balangir inspector in-charge Tariq Ahmed told HT on Friday.
Pramita Sahoo, who reached Pakistan last week on a 90-day tourist visa, married 32-year-old Mohammed Mansha after she was converted to Islam by a cleric who gave her the new name, Begum Maryam.
Pratima had stumbled upon the profile of Mansha, a resident of Layyah, a district in Pakistan’s Punjab province, 460 km south of Islamabad, and this is how the duo established contacts which turned into love within months.
But the circumstances back home are not normal as Pratima, who was associated with a religious organisation for the last 10 years and observing celibacy, kept her family in dark about her love affair as well as the decision to go to Pakistan.
