Latest Odisha News ,Rail Budget 2014: Odisha gets 4 new trains
Bhubaneswar: In yet another instance of Central apathy, Union Railway Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge todayannounced 17 new premium trains for the country, none of which will ply in Odisha. However, the state got twonew express trains and two passenger trains in this year’s interim Railway Budget.
The minister proposed two passenger trains– Sambalpur-Bhawanipatna passenger (daily), Gunupur-Visakhapatnam passenger (daily) in the budget. As per the budget speech, total 10 new passenger trains will be introduced in the country during this year.
Similarly, the minister declared two new express trains — Gandhi Dham-Puri Express (weekly) and Howarh-Jasowantpur Express via Bhubaneswar (weekly) — among 38 new express trains proposed in the budget.
In his budget speech, Kharge kept the passenger fares and freight charges unchanged. An independent Rail Tariff Authority will be set up to advice on fares and freight, he added.
To prevent fire incidents, portable fire-extinguishers in coaches and induction-based cooking will be introduced inpantry cars. More bio-toilets in trains and green curtains along the track close to major stations were also proposed in the speech.
With a budgetary support of Rs 30,223 crore, the minister proposed an outlay of Rs 64,305 crore for the Rail Budget. PTI
