The Odisha Government on Friday decided to begin its Pilgrimage Scheme for senior citizens belonging to all religiotdcons soon with support of IRCTC of the Railways department.
Except the income tax payee and retired Government employees, all people after attaining 60 years are eligible to go in tours to holy places under the scheme. Persons belonging to BPL family would be taken pilgrimage free of cost, while citizens (between 60-70 years) belonging to non-BPL families would avail 50 can avail 50 per cent subsidy and persons above 70 years of age would get 75 per cent subsidy of pilgrimage cost.
During the period, the benificiaries would be provied vegeterian food and water along with boarding facility.Besides,they would be provided insurance facility, a CMO release informed.
In the 2014 election manifesto ,the BJD had promised to provide one-time financial assistance to senior citizens for pilgrimage.
Now some other states of India are offering free Piligrimage for senior Citizens. Rajsthan Govt signed an Mou with IRCTC for this scheme.Puri, Konark, Gaya, Rameswaram, Vaishno Devi, Tripura, Amritsar, Dwarakapuri, Bihar Sharif, Shirdi are among the Pilgrim destination covered under the scheme.
