Eminent actor Sarat Pujari passed away suffering from heart attack last night. The actor is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons. His last rites would be held at the temple town of Puri, later in the day.

Sarat Pujari is a noted actor, President Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi and social activist. Pujari, best known for his memorable performances in films like Matira Manisha (1966) as Baraju directed by Mrinal Sen , in A.K.Bir Aranyaka as Raja Saheb and Kedar Babu in Shesha Drushti (1997), he had directed ’Taopoi’,’Astaraga’ and ‘Asantagraha’ died at the age of 81 after suffering a heart attack on 11th ,May, 2014 , Sunday night in a private hospital here. The star was conferred with the ‘Jayadev Award of 1985’ for his significant contribution to Odia Film Industry. He was also honored with Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award for the year 2007, Hemant Das Kala Samman Award and many other awards for his immense contribution for odia film.

Sarat Pujari (born 8 August 1934, Nayagarh, Orissa) and took to his eternal journey on 11 May 2014. He completed his post graduation in Economics and Diploma in Paintings inAllahabad University in 1956. After completing his education he started his career as a block designer and Publicity agent. In 1959, He joined as a lecturer in Economics in Panchayat College, Bargarh which he quit in 1966. Then, He joined Tapang Light Foundery, Nayagarh as a Works Manager.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today expressed his profound grief over the sad demise of eminent actor Sarat Pujari who passed away at Bhubaneswar following a heart arrest. His death has rendered irreparable loss not only for Odisha and India but also for the whole world, Patnaik said in his statement.

Saluting his contributions to Odia cine industry and Odia culture, EOdisha family prays for His Noble Soul to rest in Peace on the lotus feet of Prabhu Jagannatha.
