The Odisha Higher Education Department (DHE) has decided to activate placement cells in colleges and universities in the current academic year. Besides, it will work on setting up an independent Job portal for them.
The department in collaboration with OJAS Education, a Bhubaneswar-based private company, and monster.com, a leading online job portal, will develop the job website that will integrate every higher education institution in it phase-wise.
In the first phase, six government-run universities and some autonomous and vocational colleges will be covered. Monster will act as the service provider.
Earlier, Ministry of Human Resource Development had directed department for opening a dedicated web portal for placements.
The portal apart, DHE has asked principals of all colleges to begin work on setting up dedicated placement cells. So far, just a few universities and degree colleges offer assistance to students in getting jobs through placement drive.
An official said all the higher education institutions will allow Monster to use their placement cells. They will set up their computer terminals and other equipment for registration works. The institutions will nominate a student representative from each department/class who would collect resumes from students and submit them with the service provider. Each student interested in registering with the job portal will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 40.
Students can register themselves with the job portal or the existing students’ database of universities and colleges will be uploaded to the portal in a new format by Monster. There will also be a centralised placement hub to manage students’ profiles of all Government-run colleges.
Monster will communicate all the registered students about availability of jobs in companies across the world according to their qualification. Besides, they will remain in contact with the officers in-charge of placement cells in colleges.
OJAS, on its part, will upload students’ resumes to the portal. (Source – The New Indian Express)
