Odisha Fold Culture -165th Rahas Utsav Nuanpali : An Age Old Traditional Folk Culture of Odisha #WesternOdisha Article by Saket Sahu
Noteless Nuanpali village of drought prone Gaisilet block celebrates Rahas Utsav. It will complete 165 years of its celebration on 2nd of Novemeber. Following the traditions, the village folks gathered at the Mandap situated in the centre of the village to worship Radha & Krishna.
In the evening, the age old script of Madhumangal written in palm leaf is enacted on the pandal erected at the nearby field. Dand, Kirtan, Samparda, and Jatras go on late in the night for entertainment. The festival attracts nearby villagers as its audience and charms with Minabazar etc.
Everyday guests are invited to the Durbar to discuss about cultural tradition of the festival or about the problems of the region. In the closing day, the demon King Kansa is killed by Krishna- Balram duo.
And in the next day the village folks and the audience gathered from the nearby villages observes last rites of the demon king Kansa as per tradition. After completing the rituals, all folks assembled to have the prasad.
