At Last #BDA decides to redesigning #Baramunda Bus Stand , #Bhubaneswar , #Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The Baramunda bus terminal will get a makeover. The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will be taking up the re-development project. At a recent meeting, the BDA has decided to hire a design consultant, who will conduct a survey and submit a design.

Apart from including passenger amenities and re-designing the bus terminal to accommodate around 1,500 buses, commercial complexes will be built around it. “We have set tentative priorities to modernize the terminal given the present condition and future requirement. There may be few modifications after the survey and submission of designs by the design consultant,” said a BDA insider.

The terminal spread over 14.43 acre does not have any passenger amenities and the environment is extremely unhygienic. The roads at the entry and exit have many potholes leading to traffic jams. The auto rickshaws and private vehicles add to the chaos. “Like the bus terminals in metros, we are planning to have separate lanes for city buses, auto rickshaws and private vehicles. The buses will have bays clearly earmarked with sheds over them. There will be ample space between the buses to facilitate passenger movement,” said a BDA officer.

In 2010, the state government came with a massive plan for re-development the bus stand. But it faced roadblock and the project couldn’t be taken up. In 2011, the chief minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the project. read more at
