The Department of Higher Education (DHE) in Odisha has decided to introduce centralised online admission process for all vocational colleges in the state from next academic session starting in 2015. Earlier, the DHE had included Sanskrit colleges, including the Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya in Puri, in the e-admission process.
Right now, the DHE enables online admissions for 1,452 junior colleges and 705 degree colleges in Odisha through its Student Admission Management System (SAMS) and technical help for the purpose is provided by Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC).
In a letter, Joint Secretary, Higher Education, Ajay Kumar Nayak, has asked the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) General Manager to submit a report by September 15 about the feasibility and financial implications of extending online admissions to the vocational colleges.
As decided, 140 out of a total of 200 Sanskrit colleges that offer undergraduate courses would be included in the centralised online admission system in the first phase.
The State has 231 Government junior vocational colleges, of which 141 are under the Bhubaneswar Circle, 37 under the Brahmapur Circle and 53 under the Sambalpur Circle in the jurisdiction of the Directorate of Vocational Education.
Presently, admissions to vocational colleges are done through Common Application Forms (CAFs), which applicants have to fill in and submit.
The Higher Education Department has, so far, included Sanskrit colleges including the Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Puri, in the e-admission process.
Sources said that OCAC is yet to submit a report on extending this e-admission process to Sanskrit colleges.
