Ahmednagar-– Short film ‘Kar Bhalaa’ written and directed by Biswanath Rath, a Jeyporian, has received 2nd Best Short Film award in the category – Youth Initiatives for Constructive Changes at the recently held Yuva Nirman Short Film Festival-2014 at Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) by an NGO named ‘Snehalaya’.The award was presented by Mrs. Svati Bhatkal, Research team head of popular social talk show ‘Satyamev Jayate’.

Biswanath Rath, is a passionate writer, lyricist, actor and directorwho hails from Raju Street, Jeypore (Odisha).. After completing his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Warangal, he started his career in an automotive company in Delhi, but soon shifted to Chennai togive wings to his filmmaking dream.Having numerous short stories, award winning poems and stage shows to his credit, the director has also written and directed several skits and stage plays during his ‘NITW Dramatic Club days’.To further enhance his story-telling skills, he has completed two courses in screenwriting and film direction.

‘Kar Bhalaa’ is his debut short film and is based on a true story in Chennai. This bi-lingual (Hindi-Tamil) short film was made by the Engineer-turned-Filmmaker as a diploma project in his filmmaking course. The film went on to receive huge appreciation from audience as well as critics ever since its first private screening in Oct’2013 (held at Chennai). Till date, the short film has been screened in ten of the most prestigious International Film Festivals. In Feb 2014, a special screening was organized at Jeypore (Odisha), the filmmaker’s hometown. Hosted by Journalist Paresh Rath, the film once again enthralled the audience primarily comprising All India Radio, Jeypore Station Director Krutibasa Nayak, teacher-writer Srinath Mishra, film/ media professionals and reputed artists.
‘No award is greater than the love, support, encouragement and appreciation I get from my parents, wife,mentor John sir, family members, teachers, friends, fans,well-wishers and the audience in all my endeavors’, says the filmmaker.

He aims to make films with global appeal based on Odia cultures and traditions.
