Eminent novelist Paramita Satpathy and notable Santali language writer Gobinda Chandra Majhi, both hailing from Odisha, were conferred with the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 2016 at a function in New Delhi yesterday.
While Satpathy received the award for Prapti, a collection of ten novellas in Odia, Majhi got the prize for Nalha, an anthology of poems.
Satpathy has already received several awards for her valuable contribution in the field of literature.
She has been felicitated with Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, Bharatiya Bhasa Parishad Yuva Puraskar, Gangadhar Rath Foundation Award and Bhubaneswar Book Fair Award.
Her several novels have been translated in Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu and Marathi languages.
Similarly, Majhi, born in Mayurbhanj district and currently working as the vice president of Odisha chapter of All India Santali Writers Association, has been active both in Santali literature and films. “Bapla” and “Jolon” are two Santali movies he has been involved with. SRC – OST

Paramita Satpathy (born 30 August 1965) is an Indian writer. Paramita is the daughter of Sahitya Akademi Award winner poet Pratibha Satpathy and Nityananda Satpathy.
Paramita Satpathy’s first short-story was published in 1985 in ‘Jhankar’ magazine. Paramita, who has authored seven short-story collections, has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award 2016 for Odia. She has won the award for ‘Prapti’, a short-story collection she wrote in 2012. Prapti was released in a compact disc (CD) in August 2015. Many of her novels have also been translated in Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu and Marathi languages.
Paramita Satpathy who had joined Indian Revenue Service in 1989, is posted as the commissioner of the Income Tax department.

Gobind Chandra Majhi (born:17 May 1956) is a Santali language writer. He has been nominated for the Sahitya Academy Award for 2016. Post retirement from Bank job, Majhi is working as the vice president of Odisha chapter of All India Santali Writers Association .
Gobinda Chandra was born in 1956 at Bahalada under Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. His father’s name was Bhilu Soren and mother’s name was Aarsu Soren. He passed his matriculation from Bahalda Govt High School. Then he completed his graduation from Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College, Bhubaneswar and LLB from Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack. He worked with Syndicate Bank and retired as a Senior Manager. Post retirement he has been busy pursuing his literary activities.
